Athens-Clarke County Implements New Measures to Address Homelessness

In an effort to gain a clearer understanding of homelessness within the community, Athens-Clarke County has implemented a new Coordinated Entry System. This system allows local organizations to administer surveys to individuals facing homelessness, providing more accurate data to inform policy and resource allocation.

According to a recent report by the Athens Homeless Coalition, the Coordinated Entry System assessed nearly 900 individuals over the past year, including approximately 200 children. This figure contrasts with the 2025 Point-In-Time Count, which identified just over 500 individuals experiencing homelessness. The updated system has also facilitated housing for over 40 individuals by matching them with available opportunities. Source

These findings underscore the pressing need for continued efforts to address homelessness in Athens-Clarke County. Community members and local organizations are encouraged to support initiatives aimed at providing stable housing and resources for those in need.
